Brass bristles are not to be used as mixing metals is not recommended,(this rule also applies to ultrasonic cleaning). Its good to have nylon brushes when cleaning general medical instruments, such as retractors, hemostats, needle holders. The bristles are safe and stiff enough to help with most cleaning applications. However, every once in awhile a more powerful cleaning brush is necessary. This is especially when cleaning serrations and box locks of hemostats, Debakey forceps, needle holder jaws and other areas that are difficult to clean. The ideal brush for these situations is the stainless steel bristle brush.
